Battery and Power

How long does the battery last?

Battery life varies significantly by device hardware, firmware role, and usage. General expectations:

  • Personal BLE companion device — typically 3-7 days on a single charge with moderate use
  • E-ink display devices — can last 7-14 days due to the low-power display
  • Repeater/router role — continuous operation; must be connected to power or use a large battery with solar

Can I charge via USB?

Yes. Almost all LoRa devices charge via USB-C (or micro-USB on older models). They can also be charged from a power bank, making them practical for extended outdoor use.

Can I run a node on solar?

Yes. Solar-powered deployments are common for repeaters and fixed nodes. Both platforms have low-power modes that make solar practical. A modest 10-30W panel with a suitable battery can keep a node running indefinitely in most climates.

Does using the mesh network drain my phone battery?

The LoRa device handles all radio communication. Your phone communicates with the device via Bluetooth only when actively in use. Leaving the app open in the background has modest impact on phone battery, similar to other Bluetooth accessories.
